Wow. What can I say to introduce this beauty? Clearly, not all endangered species are as cute as the panda or as stunning as the Siberian tiger! I introduce: The Blobfish (yes, that is really its name)! Aside from being blessed with a name that could have been a Shakespearean insult, this little guy has bigger problems: A deep sea dweller, the blobfish is often caught in trawling nets and is routinely killed by the thousands.

Bottom trawling, used for catching lobster, crab and many other species, is one of the most destructive fishing methods. Trolling massively destroys the ocean ecosystems and endangers the lives of creatures by dragging a net along the bottom of the ocean, indiscriminately picking up everything in its path. And, it’s an unfortunate insult to injury that, in the process of trolling, nets are accidently wiping out this fantastically ugly little fish. Next time you buy seafood, remember the blobfish and aim to buy more sustainable crustaceans that are caught in a more environmentally friendly way. If you’re interesting in learning more about making sustainable seafood choices, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has compiled studies that do a good job explaining the issues.
While we’re talking about being nice to the Blobfish, I think we should give him a new name. Any suggestions?

I think the “Fat Bastard Fish” would be as fitting a name as any.
How did you find this beauty??!!!
it must be fine
