Bottled Water's Greenwashing Add

While looking up some information for last week’s post on plastic water bottles, I was confronted with the gaul of the bottled water companies and their latest attempt at greenwashing what never will be a green product: plastic bottles.  In this new add, bottled water manufactures talk to a cute, but fake, TV reporter and answer her scripted questions so as to present themselves as environmental saints.  I particularly like the out of focus nature shots and the acoustic guitar in the background. Moved me to tears.

Not surprisingly, they forget to mention that most of this bottled water is actually filtered tap water and that plastics, like these bottles, make up 11% of all landfill waste.  If these companies really want to do something environmental, they should sell their water in a reusable bottle with a container deposit.  Then, maybe they could produce an add with some validity.
