The Plastiki is about half way to its final destination and has just finished a brief stop on Christmas Island. If you have not heard about the Plastiki, here is a article I wrote right after they set sail. Now they are about 3600 miles into their journey and are still working on their ultimate goal of educating people about the dangers of plastics and the giant garbage patches found throughout the worlds oceans. There was some concern if the boat would hold together, but so far the boat has withstood the weather well, even though it is slow and squirrely according to the crew. Everyone is just hoping that it holds together long enough to make the trip to Sydney where the boat can be recycled. This video and graphic that David de Rothschild put together talks about these plastic gyres and their locations.
